    On 27 November 2017, the Ombudsman organised in Athens a conference on "Return of third-country nationals and the Rule of Law". The participants discussed the challenges and guarantees for the rule of law presented by the return process and the Ombudsman's experience of exercising its mandate for external control of returns. The conference was funded by the European Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2014-2020.

    - The Ombudsman in Central Macedonia
    The Ombudsman Andreas Pottakis, accompanied by staff members of the Independent Authority has carried out a visit in the Region of Central Macedonia in November 20-24. The Ombudsman meets with representatives of stakeholders and State Agencies in Thessaloniki to be informed on issues causing distress to citizens, as they appear through their complaints.

    - The Ombudsman hosted a European meeting on forced returns and human rights
    On 17 and 18 October 2017 the Ombudsman hosted in Athens a FReM II meeting of the European programme for the external control of forced return operations of third country nationals. Speaking at the meeting’s opening session, Mr. Andreas Pottakis underlined the particular importance of the presence of human rights monitors to return operations of third country nationals and focused on independent operations and accountability issues of the external control mechanism, at European level.
