    - Visit of a delegation of the Special Secretariat of Private Debt Management
Members of the Special Secretariat of Private Debt Management visited the office of the Ombudsman on Friday, 20 January 2017. In the context of the meeting, which was carried out in a very positive climate, staff members of the Ombudsman made a thorough presentation of the operation of the front desk, telephone information centre, and computerised system of the Independent Authority. They also highlighted the role and importance of the rules of conduct in the interaction with citizens and the handling of their complaints and described the objectives, methods and procedure of mediation used. This visit marks the beginning a close co-operation between the two agencies leading in joint actions and initiatives for the promotion of mediation and the advancement of a culture of alternative dispute resolution in the Greek society for the benefit of both the citizens and the economy. In this context, the Ombudsman, with its multiannual experience in the fields of Mediation and ADR, will provide the SSPDM with expertise and support, especially concerning interaction with particularly vulnerable social groups.

    - Abolishment of age discrimination provisions in a draft law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The Ombudsman welcomes the recent legislative initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to abolish all age discrimination provisions for its staff in the Bill recently submitted to the Parliament, as an important step towards combating age discrimination. This initiative responds to recurrent recommendations of the Independent Authority as early as 2007. The Ombudsman hopes that this positive development will mark the abolishment of all corresponding, inadequately justified, age discrimination provisions and will make a decisive contribution to the effective fight against stereotypes and prejudices.
