- Speech by the Greek Ombudsman, Ms Calliope Spanou, in the Council of Europe’s conference on discrimination of LGBT people
The Greek Ombudsman, Ms Calliope Spanou, participated in the conference on “Freedom of Expression for LGBT People” which was organized by the Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in co-operation with the Polish Parliament in Warsaw on the 19th of March 2013. In her speech, Ms Calliope Spanou, addressed the issue of underreporting of homophobic and transphobic speech and violence in Greece and presented the challenges faced by the Ombudsman in tackling this problem. -

The European Ombudsman P. Nikiforos Diamandouros visited the Greek Ombudsman on 23rd January and gave a speech on the occasion of the recent publication of the European Ombudsman’s guide “Public service Principles for the EU civil service”.

- Speech by the Greek Ombudsman, Calliope Spanou, in the Conference of the European Network on Free Movement of Workers in the EU
The Greek Ombudsman Ms Calliope Spanou participated in the Annual Conference on Free Movement of Workers in the EU which took place in Malta (15-16/11/2012), under the aegis of the European Commission (DG for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour mobility). Ms Spanou delivered the closing speech at this Conference in which she highlighted the direct and indirect barriers to the free movement of workers-citizens of EU member states, drawing on the experience of the Greek Ombudsman.
