Ioannis Sakellis
IOANNIS G. SAKELLIS
Born in Athens, September 3, 1950.
STUDIES
Ioannis Sakellis studied economics in Greece and Great Britain and was awarded his PhD by Panteion University of Athens in 1984. His PhD thesis is entitled: “Internal Labour Markets. The case of the Banking Sector in Greece”.
He is fluent in English.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Since 1979 he has been teaching in the field of Social Policy at Panteion University of Athens. During the academic year 1983-84 he worked as an Academic Visitor at the Faculty of Economics and Politics at the University of Cambridge, in Great Britain. In 1998 he was elected Professor of Labour Economics and Social Policy at the Department of Economic and Regional Development at Panteion University and he has been a Professor at the Department of Social Anthropology of the same university since October 2005.
He has served as Chairman of the Council of Experts on Employment and Social Security of the Ministry of Employment and Social Protection (2001-2004) as well as being a member of the European Council’s Employment Committee Group (EMCO). He has also been one of the main contributors in the organization and operation of the Analysis and Documentation Unit of the Ministry of Employment and Social Protection. During the period 2001-2008 he served as Director of the Institute of Social Policy at the National Centre for Social Research and, since 2004, as Vice President of the Centre’s Administrative Board.
Since 2008 he has been serving as Deputy Ombudsman for Social Protection, Health and Social Solidarity.
PUBLICATIONS
He has authored and published books, articles and studies, and produced important research work in the fields of social demography, labour economics and social policy.
