Description
The Ombudsman submitted a report to the European Network of Children’s Ombudspersons (ENOC), on “The Rights of Children living in institutions”, in the context of a survey conducted by the Network ιn all member states, the results of which were presented during the annual ENOC meeting in Poland. The Greek Ombudsman highlighted current needs and shortcomings and stressed the need to update legislation, in order to secure the provision of comprehensive care to children from the point of view of their rights. He also mentioned the need for the adoption of measures such as the introduction of national scale standards and guidelines for the operation of child care institutions, the implementation of a system of certification and regular supervision, the rationalisation of the organisation of child care institutions, setting up appropriate services providing emergency, temporary and long-term accommodation and care, periodic review of all placements, the further development of child care projects operating on a family-type model, the development and promotion of foster care, etc.
