Document on collective complaint: Professional development and gender discrimination

Document

Description

All six female Brigadier Generals of the Hellenic Police (EL.AS) were collectively discharged when evaluated for promotion at the rank of Major General. Four of them filed a joint complaint with the Ombudsman. The Ombudsman exchanged several documents with the leaders of the Hellenic Police, collected data from the files of all the officers of the same rank who underwent the evaluation process and reached the conclusion that the female officers’ discharge amounted to gender discrimination. A newer evaluation gave to the three out of four officers the rank of Major General, but not the possibility to return in active duty as such. The retired officers continue the litigation in courts.
