In view of the upcoming local and regional elections and the elections for the Members of the European Parliament, the Greek Ombudsman, as the national equality body and an Equinet member, hereby disseminates the recommendation of Equinet (attached) to combat discrimination and hate speech during the pre-election period.

Equinet is the European network of national equality bodies promoting equal treatment and non-discrimination. This recommendation is addressed to all stakeholders at national and European level, political parties, candidates, mass communication media and social media. It focuses on the general principle of equality, non-discrimination and the fight against hate speech and intolerance.

The purpose of the dissemination of the Recommendation is to inform and raise awareness in civil society against racism and intolerance, as such phenomena often occur during electoralcampaigns.
